Tania Dalton Foundation celebrates fifth intake

The Tania Dalton Foundation has welcomed the arrival of 12 new deserving recipients for its scholarship programme.

The 2022 recipients include netballers Torren Isaako and Ashlyn Koce.

The foundation created in honour of the sporting legend, supports young New Zealanders from all circumstances and stages of development to unlock their potential and their best selves.

The Scholarship Programme which honours Tania’s passion for supporting young women in a range of sports she loved and enjoyed.

The three-year programme provides financial support, mentoring, and personal development workshops to 12 talented and deserving young sports women each year.

Each recipient is paired up with a scholarship partner, who has provided the financial support for the three-year programme. Scholarship partners from previous years have committed to supporting another Tania Dalton scholarship recipient this year.

Founder and husband, Duane Dalton says Tania would be absolutely thrilled with the progress the Foundation has made.

“Having the chance to see the girls enter the program and then watch them progress through until they graduate is humbling and something Tania would absolutely cherish,” he said.

The programme provides girls opportunities to connect with like-minded athletes and with experienced mentors. The mentor and recipient relationship is important as the support goes beyond sport.

The ultimate goal of the programme is for these young women to then ‘pay it forward’ and contribute back to their communities and continue the legacy for future generations.

“Given our recent challenges as a society this is an aspect of the programme that really resonates with Tania’s passion. Giving back is often more rewarding than receiving and it's so great to see the girls truly embracing this key pillar in the Foundation's purpose,” added Duane.
