Players given a voice in nationwide survey

Netballers throughout New Zealand once again have the chance to shape the future of the game by sharing their experiences in the 2022 Voice of the Participant Survey, conducted by NielsenIQ.

The results from this survey are important – they help Netball New Zealand, Zones and Centres provide a greater netball experience, retain and attract members, and ultimately promote a lifelong love of and involvement in the game.

“It’s critical we don’t assume what our players want, that’s why we love this survey – often what we think is motivating players and what the reality is, can be quite different. Having this understanding allows us to better shape programmes and drive engagement at both national and community levels,” said Netball New Zealand’s Participation Manager Irene van Dyk.

The 2021 survey results, which was completed by thousands of players, highlighted that ‘value for money’, ‘being professional and well run’ and ‘encouraging me to fulfil my potential’ were the most important drivers for playing the sport across all age groups.

“It’s then on us as a sport to ensure we’re delivering on these drivers and making sure our player needs are being met,” said van Dyk.

Last year’s results, which provided a wide array of insights into all aspects of the game, highlighted that ensuring netball was fun, was as important for players as it being competitive. It was encouraging to read that 83% of parents believe their child’s coach emphasised fun and enjoyment throughout the season.

Van Dyk said it will be interesting to understand and analyse the results from this year, what gives players that sense of belonging to their club or centre – and what impact Covid may have played over the last 12 months.

The survey is now open and closes 14 August. Please follow this link to complete

All players that complete the survey go in the draw to WIN a prize pack from their Zone and signed balls by the Silver Ferns from Netball New Zealand.
