Poipoia, the Netball New Zealand strategy, aims to promote dynamic leadership, innovation, and operational excellence in the sport. One of the initiatives to drive this change is the launch of an online hub for Netball Centres.
Netball New Zealand is excited to launch the Centre Management hub which aims to reduce the administrative load for the many dedicated Netball Centre staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to have the thousands of players on court each week playing the game they love.
The ‘one-stop-shop’ provides best practice guidelines, templates and governance resources that are specific for Netball Centre management – particularly the smaller to medium-sized Centres throughout the country.
“We hope that having these resources in one place means that staff and volunteers can easily find what they need, reducing the administrative burden and saving time,” says Netball New Zealand project lead Jenna Murie.
“There are lots of challenges with organising sport at a community level. We want our staff and volunteers to gain knowledge and feel empowered to lead – if we can simplify the day-to-day running of a Centre by sharing resources and best practice – then there’s more capacity for innovation,” says Murie.
There are around 150 documents and links that have been released, but the intention is for the hub to continually evolve.
When Netball New Zealand reached out to Centres and Zones, it gathered valuable insights into the needs and specific resources which would be useful.
“In many cases, we have been able to utilise existing resources from within the Netball Community, which has been wonderful. There is a wealth of knowledge available, we just needed to share and organise it more effectively,” said Murie.
Topics included so far are finance, marketing, planning and strategy, safety and integrity, volunteer management and governance.
“We really want to keep this a dynamic space where the Netball community can contribute documents they find helpful, which is why we have kept it online.”
