Running the sausage sizzle fundraiser at Marlborough Netball on Friday and Saturday game days is how Viv and Les Broughton are supporting their Centre this season.
Between them they cook and serve over 400 sausages and have both have done many other roles over the years to give back.
“The girls in the office know that we are here to help whenever they need it,” said Viv.
Though her playing, coaching and administration roles over the years, Viv has also had the privilege of hosting some of the great coaching names at her house.
“I’ve had Noeline Taurua and Margaret Foster here for lunch and loved meeting Ruth Aitken and Yvonne Willering.”
Viv even played hostess to the Silver Ferns when they visited the region in 2014, sharing her baking with them.
“Les is a bit of a handy man and does any repairs needed. I found him filling in pot holes in between cooking sausages one weekend,” said Raramai Nicklin from Marlborough Netball Centre.
He also put his handy man skills to good use when he, Viv and a few others helped to move all the seating from the old courts to the new courts in Blenheim. Les had been involved in the assembly and painting of this seating 40 years earlier, “I definitely won’t be back for the next 40,” Les joked.
