Cadbury Volunteer of the Month – Tyler Campbell

Netball New Zealand’s Volunteer of the Month for May, Tyler Campbell, comes from a family of volunteers. We talk to Tyler about her volunteering experiences.

Waiuku College student Tyler Campbell has her family to thank in encouraging her to step into the world of volunteering.

The Year 13 pupil started helping others in netball five years ago when she first picked up a whistle at the Waiuku Netball Centre.

Since then she has been umpiring for a number of teams and has also taken on the role of the Centre’s futureFerns co-ordinator.

Tyler said she has her family to thank for encouraging her to become involved with volunteering, particularly her mum who is her role model.

She said there had been many highlights during her time helping netballers of all ages at the Waiuku Netball Centre.

“Volunteering has added value to my life because I get to meet and get to know new people every day,” she said.

Watching other young netballers taking part in the futureFerns programme has been a highlight of her years with the Waiuku Centre.

“I really like watching them develop from when they start the futureFerns programme to when they finish,” she said.

Tyler said she is fortunate to have the support of her family and friends which allowed her to dedicate time to playing, coaching, umpiring and her futureFerns co-ordinator role.

“They are always there for me and encouraged me to work my hardest and do what I love,” she said.
