NWYC2017 Blog: NZU21s prepare for first game against Northern Ireland

Netball World Youth Cup Gaborone 2017 (NWYC2017) is about to get underway and right in the thick of the action are the reigning champions, our NZU21s.

Netball New Zealand caught up with shooter Monica Falkner for an update ahead of their first NWYC2017 game against Northern Ireland today.

“Kia ora,

Another big day for the team! The day before our first game against Northern Ireland started with a debrief of yesterday's friendly against Trinidad and Tobago. Next up was a mini team challenge with cultural performances - the win was taken out by ‘Team Marty’ with a very original and entertaining performance. Before lunch, we had a final training session before our first game against Northern Ireland tomorrow.

One of the highlights of our day was our good ol’ team manager Jill surprising the team with a safari in a game reserve, where we managed to see giraffes, zebras and rhinos!

We're all excited and ready to hit the ground running in our first game tomorrow - it's not every day you get to play for your country, let alone in AFRICA.

Good night/good morning from us!

Next up: GAME TIME!”
