New Zealand Men’s Invitational team named
The New Zealand Men’s and Mixed Netball Association (NZMMNA) has named their invitational team to play in the June International Series against the Silver Ferns, Fiji and a yet-to-be-named All Stars team.
NZMMNA Board member Richard Jocelyn said that the overall calibre of men’s netball in New Zealand made for some tough decisions but the most experienced and successful players and management were ultimately invited.
“We think we’ve assembled a team that will give the Silver Ferns the tough opposition they need while also showcasing the talent we have in our own ranks,” he said.
“Men’s teams have been training against the top women’s teams for many years but to be included and recognised at this level is fantastic.”
New Zealand Men’s Netball held their first Men’s Netball Nationals in Rotorua 35 years ago and the sport has grown considerably since then. In 2004, the first New Zealand Mixed National tournament was held in Auckland.
Over the years, a strong partnership has been built with Netball New Zealand and this has led to this series, which is a world first.
In an announcement last week, Netball New Zealand said they were pleased to secure quality opposition ahead of the Netball World Cup in July.
